Last Friday, the Tour de France came through Colmar, a town about 80 km from Strasbourg. So we took the train Friday afternoon to watch them finish the stage.
It poured and I almost froze to death in my flip-flops (still growing accustomed to cool weather in July) but it was all totally worth it to be part of the excitement!
Lucky for my new friend Kathleen and I, our husbands bought some beer to keep us warm while we waited.
Around 1 hour before the cyclists arrive, the caravan comes through which consists of decked out cars and trucks that throw out products of all the sponsors. It is basically like a mardi gras parade, in that people are throwing elbows and scrambling to grab things that they will probably just end up throwing away a year from now. :) But....it is so much fun! We managed to snag a hat, some noise sticks, the french version of a foam finger, and some bottles of water.
Here's an example from the Caravan:

After the caravan, the excitement grew as we began spotting team cars. Here's a car from Lance's team:
Then, finally, we spotted our first cyclist: The stage winner Heinrich Haussler.

And then a few minutes later.....the Pelaton!

Which included our boy Lance Armstrong! I would say we are 80% sure this is actually him and not another member of his team. :)

This guy was easier to capture because he didn't wizz by the like the others. Notice he's holding his shoulder and he was bleeding. Pretty intense. Lucky for him, the pouring rain probably helped sooth and clean his injury.
The tour ends this weekend and Lance is holding steady is second. Hopefully he can pull it out.
