Last 6 Weeks of 3rd and 6th Grade

 Yesterday was the official start of summer as the girls wrapped up 3rd and 6th grade.  It's been a whirlwind of a spring and we are ready for a slower pace.  Here are the highlights of the last 6 weeks, in backward chronological order.......I accidentally posted them incorrectly and am too lazy to correct it.  :)

The girls had half days for the last week of school so yesterday we headed to Fort Myer's awesome pool complex to celebrate the start of summer. 

The water was chilly but we had a fantastic afternoon.

We spent another half-day afternoon exploring some nature trails in our neighborhood.

Last weekend at church, I accepted a community grant that will fund 15 beds and bedding for refugee families. 

We also celebrated Peter's 43rd birthday with a family birthday party.  

I spent Memorial Day weekend in Charlottesville with these ladies.  We had the best time....lazy brunch and shopping were on the agenda on this day.  

Another day we hit up this beautiful winery.  

But only after earning our wine with a hike on the AT.  

The views were worth every step.  

Our first night we had Spanish tapas at a cool place near UVA's campus.  It was a wonderful weekend.  

Another afternoon in May, I picked the girls up from school early so we could head to the zoo.  

The panda was having an afternoon snack.  

May was also the Party on the Patio fundraiser for Sarah Avery's school.  The theme was "Off to the Races" so we enjoyed wearing fun hats and outfits.  

The girls finished their lacrosse seasons.  

Sarah Avery seems to have found her sport.  

                             
                                                  Susannah had an awesome season as well.  

And had some amazing defensive plays.

                                          

Peter and I snuck away to Key West for Mother's Day weekend.  The sunsets were a highlight.

We ate amazing food, but these raw oysters in a water-side dive bar may have been our favorite meal.  

This resort was closing for a 6-month renovation. We were some of the last guests to enjoy this amazing poolside view.  

Sand sculptures at the resort were pretty cool. 

We had the best time reconnecting after such a crazy year.  

Meanwhile, the girls were having a blast with Ms. Allison.  On this day they attended a festival at the German Embassy. 

Face painting was a hit.  

As was this mascot.  

Peter loved our excursion to this sandbar in the middle of the ocean. 

It was super cool to be wading around nowhere near land.  

We also kayaked through these mangroves.  

Another day, another festival that included face painting with Ms. Allison. 

Off to another delicious Key West dinner.  

The view from our room was quite lovely. 

As was this little welcome gift Peter arranged, complete with my favorite cupcakes....carrot.  :)  

Ahhhhh.  

One last highlight of our spring was taking this girl to see "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret."  It was so fun sharing this story from my adolescence with my favorite 12-year-old.  

And now we are focused on having a fun and relaxing summer.  Susannah heads to camp next week while SA will do a day camp here in the neighborhood.  Then we head to Hilton Head.  We hope all of you are having a happy, healthy start to your summer!
