Le Donon

A month or so ago, Peter and I drove to another section of the Vosges Mountains to do a "little day hike," and climb to the top of "Le Donnon." It turned out to be longer and more challenging than we thought, but other than a few blisters, we survived. And the views were totally worth the climb.

Here is Peter, sporting his "I'm so happy that I don't have to shave everyday" beard, as we are just starting our hike.


The view from the summit of Mont Donon was amazing:


The coolest part, though, was the Roman temple that sits at the top of the summit. Apparently, the summit was used first by the Celtic people, then by the Romans for sacrifices and other rituals. In the 1800's, this replica was built and serves as a great place to rest at the top of the trail.


Peter took advantage of the temple steps to take a breather and enjoy the view.


We passed this beautiful farmland on our way back to our car. It was so picturesque, we decided to drive back up to it after our hike to watch a meteor shower that was happening that night.


But before driving back up for the meteor shower, we had to reward ourselves for all our hard work: triple scoop definitely does the trick!


While we waited on the sun to set and the meteor shower to start, we took advantage of a blackberry patch. We picked enough for at least two jars of jam.



Peter has become quite the home made jam connoisseur. Just another thing to love about life in France!
