We made it....

Since we first moved to France we have really wanted to travel to Spain and elsewhere on the Iberian penisula, so we finally took the trip during the first week of June. (We're a little behind on our postings.) This exucursion was a great way to celebrate finishing school and see this part of Europe. Of course there is no better way to travel to Barcelona than the new Lufthansa Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft.....

...but since tickets are sky high, we chose the always comfy ryanair and we arrived in Barcelona just in time for some local fruit and Tapas...




Right after we arrived in Barcelona we came across the The Arc de Triomf of Barcelona. Our numerous visits to the Arc de Triomph in Paris has inspired Whitney to try to see all the triumphal arches scattered around the globe. Although, I am not sure we will make the one in North Korea!

After a local beverage for me and some tasty tapas for Whitney we set out on a walking tour of Barcelona. We started at the top of La Rambla and walked to the beach.



La Rambla seems to be the main drag in Barcelona filled with everything from pet stores...

to street peformers....


We checked out the beach at sunset and then we hoofed it over to the Olympic stadium.



The next day in Barcelona may have been one of the best mornings in Europe we have had so far. We woke up to a sleepy Spain and walked down to the big fruit, vegetable, fish and meat market.

Of course on the way to the market we had to stop by one of the newest hotspots in Barcelona.

When we stumbled into the market we were amazed at the colors...


While Whit picked up a delicious fruit juice for breakfast,

I went with the famous, local potato omlette.


After leaving Barcelona, we were "magically" whisked away to Gibralter, UK.

Of course the only thing to see in Gibralter is its famous rock and that's exactly what we did. Instead of taking the normal tourist taxi ride to the top of the Rock of Gibralter, we opted for the Mediterranean Steps. They are a set of switch back stairs straight up the face of the rock, which over look the Straights of Gibralter (between the Europe and Africa).


The views were beautiful and the hike was steep, but we knew that once we reached the top we would see something we have never seen before.......



....free roaming Barbary Macaques from Northern Africa....

That's right, the world famous Barbary Apes haved lived on the rock of Gibralter for almost a century now.


Legend says that as long as the Barbary Apes live and roam freely on the Rock of Girbralter, it will remain a British territory. After we saw one these wild Macaques bite a 14 year girl, I am pretty sure that the Queen should not be worried about losing this spit of land.

Oh by the way, if you are counting, yes, this is our second post in a row about monkies from Africa that are living in Europe.

Going to the rock was quite a treat and we had some beautiful views throughout the day.
