Hawaii: Part 3

   Sorry we have been out of touch for a while.......we have been super busy with lots of fun summertime activities including swim lessons, potty-training attempts, and visits from and to old friends. I will be posting about all of those things soon.  But today I want to finally share the rest of our Hawaii photos.

This was sunset on the 4th.   The beach was packed with people enjoying the big waves.   Peter joined the locals for some body surfing while Susannah and I watched from the pier. 

The next day we loaded up the baby back-pack  (thanks to the Campoamors for letting us borrow this!) to hike Diamond Head Crater.   It is one of the most famous attractions on Oahu, so we had to check it out.

Our condo was conveniently located close enough that we just walked to the crater and avoided traffic/parking.   Here we are on our way up to the crater entrance. 

As we climbed, the views got better and better.

Quite a reward for what turned out to be a pretty quick and easy hike.

Susannah was more intersted in her cheerios than the views. 

After a few minutes at the summit, it was time to head down. 

And down.

And down.

Susannah loved riding with Dada.

She also liked eating the famous hawaian shaved ice afterward. 

This is the view from inside the crater.....it was so beautiful and spacious and such a welcome change from the bustling city of Waikiki Beach.

We had the best time running around in the grass and enjoying the fresh air.

Several months ago, we saw the guy from Man vs. Food attempt a pancake challenge in Waikiki.   We swore we would give it a try during our vacation.   The challenge is eat this in one hour.......if you do it, you get your picture on the wall.   Notice the little hand that is poking into the picture.....Susannah was excited to help Dada with the challenge. 

YUM!   Needless to say, we didn't come close to finishing even half of it.   In all honesty, it was a pretty disgusting idea and will most likely be the first and last food challenge for the Mallory family.  

The following day was our last full day in Waikiki and we decided to head back to the North Shore to check out a botanical garden that is famous for a waterfall where "Lost" was filmed. 

It was a little drizzly, so Susannah got to use the cool canopy attachment to the pack. 

We are big "Lost" fans so we were super excited to see the place where Kate and Sawyer's waterfall scene was filmed.  

Peter and I took turns swimming since Susannah didn't have her little bathing suit. 

That didn't stop her from splashing and throwing rocks. 



She had a big time and didn't want to leave.



We sweetened the deal by letting her run around and stretch her legs for a little while. 

It gave Dada a rest and allowed Susannah to do some exploring.

She saw lots of pretty flowers,

some big beautiful trees,

and even a couple of wild chickens.......Susannah tried to lure them with her cheerios. 

                                    

Remember those beautiful leis from the first day of our vacation?   Well, on our last morning, we finally remembered to take them out of the fridge and wear them for a photo op.    They were a little less fresh looking, but it was a good end to the trip.  

The girls at the beginning of the 5 1/2 hour flight back.   Notice the hawaian doll in Susannah's hand.   That was purchased by her Daddy last minute at the gate after she fell on the marble airport floor and her nose gushed blood for a few horrible minutes.   Luckily we had just enough time to change her clothes before getting on the plane.   She was fine, but Mommy was a little bit of a stress ball.  All is well that ends well though and we made it home safely and on time and with our noses in tact.
